Man in court over alleged rape in Spalding last month

A man charged with an alleged rape in Spalding has today (Tuesday) appeared at Lincoln Crown Court.

Shane Bright, 30, of Wygate Road, Spalding, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared before the Recorder of Lincoln, Judge Simon Hirst.

Mr Bright did not enter a plea to the allegation and his barrister, Stuart Lody, asked for the hearing to be adjourned until April 25.

Judge Hirst agreed to the adjournment and remanded Mr Bright into custody until his next court appearance.

The judge told Mr Bright: “Your trial, if there is to be one, will be on July 14.

“You will next be in court on April 25 for a hearing where you may be asked if you plead guilty or next guilty.”

Lincolnshire Police previously said officers were called to an address in Spalding on Monday, January 27, at 11.52pm.

Mr Bright was arrested later the same day and charged with rape, a spokesman said.

Mr Bright appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 28, and was remanded into custody.
