A man has been given a ‘wake-up’ call after being arrested for being in possession of cocaine in a Spalding night spot.
Ashley Jones, 25, of Boyfields, Quadring admitted the offence when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.
Magistrates heard that door staff had discovered Jones and another man sniffing cocaine in the toilets of the XO nightclub in Westlode Street in the early hours of January 25.
Prosecutor Jim Clare said that both men were taken by security staff to the main door to await the police, but the other man ran away before they arrived.
He said the cocaine was found wrapped in a £20 note in Jones’ sock.
He said Jones started alleging that staff had planted the drug on him but then said it had been given to him by the man who ran away.
Mark Hudson, mitigating, said this was a wake-up call for Jones, who had no previous convictions but had been cautioned for possessing cocaine.
Fining him £375, the magistrates told Jones that he now had a criminal record and warned him: “You don’t want your future to be blighted by drugs”.
He was also ordered to pay £122 in court costs and charges.
