Man denies robbing Spalding store

A 36-year-old man is to face a trial at Lincoln Crown Court after he denied a robbery at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Spalding.

Shane Cooper entered a not guilty plea to the robbery charge when he appeared before Recorder Nicholas Bacon KC at Lincoln Crown Court.

Cooper, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the theft of protein powders from Sainsbury’s during the incident on December 6.

He also admitted a second charge of robbery from a Co-op store in Spalding on the same day in which protein powders were stolen.

Prosecutors asked for the case on the outstanding robbery charge at Sainsbury’s to be adjourned for trial.

Recorder Bacon fixed the trial for a two hearing at Lincoln Crown Court in the week beginning June 1.

Cooper was remanded into custody until his trial.

Following Cooper’s arrest Sgt Callum Corder, of the South Holland Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Our team remain dedicated to gathering evidence about prolific and violent offending.

“We run initiatives during the Christmas period to support retail premises and have worked collaboratively with our Response officer colleagues to achieve charges for these significant offences.”
