Man admits sale of illegal products

A man has admitted six charges relating to illegal products including 7,880 illegal cigarettes from a Spalding store.

Dyar Hassani (29), of Dingley Court, Peterborough, is the director of Global Foods Ltd at 2 Winsover Road.

At Boston Magistrates’ Court, speaking through a Kurdish interpreter, he admitted being in possession of 7,880 illegal cigarettes and 500 grammes of tobacco products that had a criminal worth of £2,140.

He also pleaded guilty to two charges of selling counterfeit cigarettes, selling flavoured tobacco, cigarettes without health warnings and with packaging that did not comply with UK regulations.

It followed a police raid on the property on February 27, 2023.

Prosecuting on behalf of Lincolnshire Trading Standards, Andy Goldsborough told the court that an arrest warrant had been issued for Hassani but that he’d handed himself in to Thorpe Wood Police Station.

He added that Hassani had been working in a shop that had been found to be selling illegal cigarettes in 2020, but for Global Food he was the sole director of the business.

Mr Goldsborough also said that among the cigarettes for sale were those he called ‘dangerous’ as the cigarettes ‘don’t self extinguish’.

District judge Daniel Church ordered a report from probation on Hassani.

“That will tell me a bit more about you and your personal circumstances.

“Please make sure you co-operate with the probation services.”

Hassani was given conditional bail and told to attend Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on September 8.
