Majestic Majeed sets a new standard as Spalding Town see off Long Sutton in derby

A club-record score of 158 from Hafiz Majeed fired Spalding Town to an emphatic 128-run win over South Holland rivals Long Sutton on Saturday.

The Pakistan all-rounder hit the lion’s share of Town’s dominant 267-5 in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division derby at Spalding Grammar School, with Josh Newton adding 42 at the top of the order.

Raj Sangha (46) and Chris Booth (30) scored well in Sutton’s reply, but Dan Milgate’s 5-35 helped bowl them out for 139 and secure 20 match points for table-topping Town.

The win moves Spalding 21 points ahead of second-placed Sleaford 2nd, having played a game more.

At the other end of the table, Sutton are 19 points clear of the drop zone.

In Division One, Spalding 2nd continue to dominate at the top following an eight-wicket win over Heckington.

Mike Kearns’ side are now a huge 39 points clear at the top of the table.
