Magic Moulton Harrox power to mighty 212-run victory as trio catch the eye

Cracking knocks from Joe Broomfield and Jack Barnett and a rapid five-wicket haul from Max Cusack fired Moulton Harrox to a huge 212-run win on Saturday.

Batting first against Billingborough 2nd in South Lincs and Border League Division One at Harrox Field, Moulton clubbed 275-8 before skittling their opponents out for just 63 in reply.

Despite losing Lance Bettinson (3) early on, Moulton seized command of the game when skipper Broomfield and the always-impressive Barnett came together at the crease.

Opener Broomfield smacked ten fours and three sixes on his way to 77, while number three Barnett feasted on 12 boundaries as he amassed 81.

It wasn’t a two-man show with the bat, though, with number five Andy Goodley also chipping in with an excellent 47. He hit four fours and walloped two maximums, while Will Naylor (25) also made a tidy contribution to ensure the hosts took maximum batting points.

By contrast, Billingborough struggled with the bat.

Louis Greetham (2-23) and Darren Hibbert (2-23) got rid of the top four cheaply, setting the stage for Cusack to rip through the tail.

His amazing figures of 5-1 off just 3.2 overs bamboozled the visitors and ensured Harrox bagged 20 points from the clash.

The win moves Moulton into mid-table ahead of Saturday’s home date with high-flying Baston (1pm).

  • An unbeaten 109 from Will Naylor couldn’t stop Moulton Harrox falling to a 34-run loss against Uffington 2nd in Rutland League Division Four East on Sunday.

Visitors Uffington made 204-9 from their 45 overs before bowling Harrox out for 170 in reply, leaving Naylor stranded at the other end.

Uffington’s innings was a team effort, with D Moss’ 56 not out the best individual score.

Harrox also shared the wickets out, with Naylor (3-54), Darren Hibbert (2-25), Joe Griffiths (2-48) and Dan Grant (2-23) all taking scalps.

However, only two players got past ten in their replyat Harrox Field.

Naylor’s ton, which included 15 fours, and a 31 from Rob Sexton accounted for 140 of their team total of 170, which came to an end in the 44th over.
