‘Ludicrous’ van for Two Ball Rally drivers

Three friends are set to embark on a fundraising adventure driving a banger across Europe.

They will be taking their multi-coloured van to the Two Ball Banger rally to raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Mark Robinson, Ashley Goodale and James King will be heading off next month for the run which is due to end in Spain’s Costa Brava.

Mr Robinson and Mr Goodale both teach motor vehicle skills at the University Academy, Holbeach.

Mr King is an engineer at Welland Power, in Spalding, which has donated resources to allow the men to transform their vehicle from the plain old grey LDV to a colourful, modified racing machine.

“The van has been subject to an extreme make-over with leftover paint, bull bars, light bars, porthole windows, megaphone, air horns, disco lights and many more ludicrous modifications,” said Mr Robinson.

The Two Ball Banger Rally will see drivers head into France on July 28, onto the Alps, Italy, Monaco and finishing in Costa Brava.

“You can rock up in a £200 rust bucket or a super car. The banger budget is £567 or you can use any car you wish,” said Mr Robinson.

Other vehicles can enter, but cannot be in line for a banger prize.

The trio are test-driving their van in the area and hope people will wave at them and make a donation.

“We believe the East Anglian AIr Ambulance is a fantastic and totally worthy cause,” Mr Robinson said.

The three men are still completing the van’s transformation as they will be living in it for the four-day, 503 mile event.
