Closing date for Norwich and Peterborough branch

A town centre building society will close its doors for the last time in October.

The Norwich and Peterborough, in Spalding’s Sheep Market is due to close on Friday,  October 20.

The date was confirmed by the group’s owners, the Yorkshire Building Society, this week.

A Yorkshire Building Society Group spokesperson said: “Our Spalding branch will close on Friday, October 20. We will be writing to all branch customers to inform them of this date and to give them details of Boston, the next nearest branch, and how they can manage their accounts with us online or via our contact centre.”

It was announced earlier this year the Norwich and Peterborough would no longer operate current accounts and customers were told to change to alternative providers.

The Yorkshire Building Society also announced it was closing a total of 28 N&P branches by the end of the year.

The closures, which resulted in a total of 400 jobs being put at risk, are being staggered throughout the summer and autumn.
Yorkshire Building Society chief executive Mike Regnier said: “The driving forces behind the proposed branch closures are shifts in market conditions and an increasing desire among customers to transact digitally rather than on the high street.

“We therefore no longer believe it is the right commercial position for us to continue to maintain these 48 branches across the N&P and Yorkshire network.”

The Spalding branch in Sheep Market will go along with others nearby in Bourne, Market Deeping and Stamford. The nearest branch for South Holland customers will be Boston.
