Lorry driver tells jury child’s claims of sexual touching ‘false and fabricated’

A Spalding lorry driver who denies sexually touching a girl told a jury all the allegations were false and fabricated’.

Shaun Denmead, 44, of Thames Road, Spalding, denies 15 sexual charges.

They include six counts of sexual assault on a child and nine charges of sexual activity with a child.

Giving evidence at Lincoln Crown Court, Denmead insisted the girl was lying in her accounts to the police and the jury.

Jurors heard Denmead was arrested in January 2025 after the girl gave a video recorded interview to the police in which she made a number of allegations against him.

Prosecution barrister Richard Butters asked Denmead: “Your evidence is that throughout her interview she was lying from start to finish?”

Speaking from the witness box, Denmead replied: “Yes.”

Mr Butters questioned: “She lied to the jury when she gave evidence a few days ago?” Denmead again replied: “Yes.”

Denmead agreed his case was that all the allegations made against him were ‘false and fabricated’.

“You are completely innocent of all the allegations?”, Mr Butters asked Denmead. “You have nothing to hide,? “

Denmead repeated: “That is correct.”

The court heard Denmead gave a prepared statement denying the allegations after he was arrested by the police.

In the witness box Denmead insisted he chose not to answer further questions during his police interview on the advice of his solicitor.

Denmead denied a suggestion from Mr Butters that it was “just easier” to give the police a prepared statement than to answer questions.

Mr Butters asked Denmead: “Can I suggest it did happen, that is why she can provide so much detail?”

Denmead replied: “No.”

The trial continues.
