Lionel laps up local litter

Pupils at a Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND school) are making a difference in their community by taking part in a Duke Of Edinburgh Award.
They include Lionel Potts, a 14-year-old who has been going out litter picking at the sports field at Whaplode every Sunday since May.
He has also regularly does extra sessions picking up litter on Little Lane in the village.
Lionel attends Tudor Lodge Therapeutic School in Whaplode.
He’s currently working towards his bronze Duke Of Edinburgh Award.
Other pupils from the school also doing the scheme have been volunteering at places including local care homes.
Margaret Lewis, the secretary of Whaplode Playing Field, said of Lionel: “He has been a real help to us and is very thorough, going all round including the hedgerow areas to ensure the field is always clear of rubbish.
“The lane is looking good as well.
“We do think that keeping an area clean encourages others to keep it clean as well and Lionel has been instrumental in supporting this.
“We would wish him well in working towards his Duke of Edinburgh award.”
