A Spalding secondary school has had two potentially life-saving defibrillators installed.
The machines, which cost just under £1,000 for the pair, were funded by The Friends of Sir John Gleed School.
Currently there is no legal requirement for places of education to have access to a defibrillator but more than 600 young people die every year from cardiac arrests.
Anthony Grunwell, Associate Teacher and Community Ambassador, said: “I was staggered to find out that so many young students die in this way. We have to do something about this.
“Staff member Rachel Farnsworth worked very hard to make this happen and thanks to her finding a company willing to fund schools with subsidies, we were able to buy two defibrillators for just under £1,000 rather than the one we had anticipated.
“We decided on two defibrillators as the school site is very large. We intend to buy another one so the Post 16 Centre is independently covered.
“Also, we are a community school and headteacher Will Scott is keen that members of the public in the immediate locality are aware that such machines are here in the school.”
The Friends of the School are holding a quiz night on Saturday, November 28 at the school. Tickets are £7.50 including supper.
