Life-long firefighter dream fulfilled

A Gedney Dyke man has achieved his life-long goal of becoming a firefighter.

Jason Bennett-Wilson (33) graduated this month and will be on-call at Long Sutton fire station.

Jason said he has wanted to be a firefighter his whole life and that the appeal is in helping people.

Upon completing his training, Jason said the trials were even more intense than he expected them to be.

The first firefighter in his family, Jason said the pride brimmed over and his dad shed a tear.

Jason had his first call at the start of last week and said he’ll always remember his first one.

“On the way, my heart was pounding,” he said.

“The adrenaline was crazy.”

But when he arrived at the incident, a calm took over.

“The watch officer is commanding the situation and it’s very calm,” Jason said.
