LETTERS – Won’t be cheering an award

Why has Lord Gary Porter even earned consideration for a national award?
He served as leader of South Holland District Council for two decades, and I have lived in South Holland for almost two decades.
When I moved here, Spalding was a lovely little town.
My town of Holbeach had two butchers. Now there is none.
Everywhere there are empty shops. I really don’t recognise any major improvements that have been done to the area in 20 years.
For years the public conveniences in both Spalding and Holbeach were a national disgrace.
The area looks increasingly dilapidated and unwelcoming.
So no, I won’t be cheering any award for Gary Porter.
