Letters – What are the true attendance figures?

Having read the reports of the recent Holbeach Town and Country Fayre in both area newspapers, we can’t help but feel there is something not quite right or at least something needs to be cleared up, as in one report on the Tuesday following the event it’s claimed between 5,000 and 6,000 people attended over the weekend and that would work out at over £20,000 in gate money at the £5 and £3 ticket prices being quite a tidy sum, but in the Wednesday copy of another newspaper, it’s claimed that it was up to 2,000 people attended, so we wonder how can you make such a mistake with a loss of over 4,000 people or which report is to be believed?

We attended on the Sunday and it was not crowded and a friend on a stall said Saturday was quite dead plus their takings were really down and the assorted arena events were playing to hardly any spectators at any given time, and seeing vehicles going round in circles in the arena is now getting so old hat people can hardly be bothered to watch anymore.

There was unintentional entertainment hearing the assorted conversations on the steward’s mobile radios as nobody seemed to know who was doing what or what was going on at times, but as paying members of the public we felt the same as the programme seemed to be made up as they went along. In past years it was never a problem but to put this over as if it was a major success is pushing it a bit.

It used to be a smashing family day out but now it lacks atmosphere for some reason or another as everything seems either rushed or ill prepared.

So if it’s not too much to ask, would the committee or whoever is running it be kind enough to tell us the real attendance figures as we after all support this event by paying our entry fee but insulting us in this way is not on, or more to the point, why?

We look forward to the Chairman’s reply in due course.
