LETTERS – Understand parade decision

As the organising committee of the Moulton Chapel Village Parade and Fête, we wanted to share our support and understanding following Spalding Flower Parade committee’s difficult decision not to hold the event in 2026.

Anyone involved in running community events knows just how challenging rising costs have become.

Even on our much smaller scale, expenses such as insurance, road closures and security represent a significant commitment.

The successful return of the Spalding Parade in 2023, 2024 and 2025 was a tremendous achievement, and the organisers deserve real credit for what they delivered.

Stephen Timewell attended a couple of our meetings before their amazing 2023 comeback, and the Spalding Parade have always taken part and had a presence at our parade, as we have at theirs – our Village Royalty always enjoy taking part in the bigger Spalding event!

While Spalding takes a pause for one year, village traditions across the area continue.

We are pleased to confirm that Moulton Chapel’s annual village parade and fête will still take place on Sunday, May 3, celebrating our 49th consecutive event — something our village is very proud of.

Looking further ahead, 2027 is shaping up to be a landmark year for local celebrations.

It will mark the 50th Moulton Chapel Parade, the 60th anniversary of the famous Barbeque ’67, and, of course, the very welcome return of the Spalding Parade after its break.

Community events take enormous effort, and they thrive on support.

We wish the Spalding organisers swift recovery, successful funding and every success in planning for the future.

We certainly look forward to celebrating more milestones together in the years to come.
