Thank goodness for Coun Angela Newton, who appears to have the future of Spalding town at heart – Coun Gambba-Jones please take note.
It appears that the majority of SHDC members have an agenda to close down the town.
I, and several other people, cannot see how it endangers the council workers and puts them at risk from of coronavirus, to erect stalls – this was the excuse I was given by my local councillor. In fact it appears the council wants to scrap the stalls. Then, to ensure that people are not encouraged to shop in town, parking charges are to rise.
Why is it that other small market towns are able to not only help their stallholders by putting up stalls but also to give at least an hour’s free parking to help encourage footfall?
Currently thousands of houses are in the process of being built, and certainly planned, so many families will move into the area.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to entice shoppers into the town with a vibrant traditional market, which would then lead to more people using local cafes, plus established and new local shops?
I think this council should take a good long look at themselves and ask the question ‘who do they serve?’
