LETTERS – Sick of party politics

Last week’s Spalding Voice contained some fine examples as to why some people are thoroughly sick of party-political government.
There was a report on the South Holland homelessness situation which appears to be much as it has always been.
The report was summed up by Coun Tracey Carter, thus “I think we all know the country is in a difficult position” this being political speak for we have neither the cash nor the will to resolve this problem.
This comes from a council which was recently reported as spending about £70,000 to buy two acres of land to create a new woodland.
Anyone with any real experience of the countryside will realise that the project is a ridiculous waste of money.
Reading on in the Voice, we discover that Lincolnshire County Council has been given £14m to ‘boost nature projects’, whatever that may mean.
This money is coming from the Department of the Environment, as is a grant to improve air quality in Lincolnshire.
Later we read of the improvement to footpaths and cycleways in Spalding with money from the ‘Levelling Up Fund’
Weekly, the news-media carries stories of murder, cruelty to children and other serious criminal activities, and our failure to deal with these problems effectively.
It is time for our taxes to be spent on easing these problems of society, with a serious reduction of spending on nature projects.
A good start would be in closing Natural England, a quango lead by a green activist.
The suddenly unemployed green-shirts could be re-employed in social services and the police forces.
We need to direct our limited funds to help the many people now struggling to make a decent life for themselves.
