LETTERS – Salary to achieve nothing

A few months ago there was much publicity about increased police coverage in Holbeach.

I pass Holbeach police station on a daily basis, it’s rarely open, even in the daytime, but there are always at least five or six police vehicles parked there, up to eight at night time.

A leaflet delivered from the police commissioner recently, quotes new police vehicles fitted with the latest detection technology. This may be correct but it’s not a lot of use if they are parked up all day – invest further in 101 reporting.

I needed to report a non-urgent problem, so I rang 101, twice I got ‘you are in queue’ for 30 minutes and had a 28-minute wait to speak to an operative.

Extra officers and special constables, obviously of the invisible type. I’ve never seen a beat bobby in Holbeach.

Taxes up, services down, a police commissioner paid a large salary to achieve nothing. Do we need one?
