LETTERS – Please install new sauna

We, as well as many other regular users of the sauna at Spalding’s Castle Sports Complex, are calling on South Holland District Council to install one in the new building.

Because the new facility won’t have a sauna, we feel we’re getting less of a facility than we’ve got now.

We know a lot of people want to see a sauna retained.

By hand we created a petition saying one should be installed which has received over 300 signatures.

We’ve also had meetings with Sir John Hayes who is backing our calls.

He’s looking to secure a meeting on our behalf with the chief executive of South Holland District Council Rob Barlow.

In a letter to Sir John, Mr Barlow says that he ‘realises a few are not happy’ at there being no sauna, but it’s a lot of us, not just a few.

With work having already started they say the sauna can’t be put in, but we know the previous facility was created after the pool was built. The cost of installing one would also be comparatively minimal.

He also suggested we use a local business that is putting a sauna in to its premises, but that doesn’t seem very good business sense in itself from the council. It’s going to lose custom telling members to go elsewhere.

We’re also disappointed in the ‘village style’ mixed changing areas.
