LETTERS – No tables and chairs is disgrace

I think it is an absolute disgrace that the new owner cannot set out his table and chairs to enable customers to sit outside the Red Lion on market days.

Tuesdays and Saturdays would be the two days when customers could sit and enjoy a drink and a chat and enjoy the market as well.

Who is being obstinate or pig headed over this matter? Here we have someone who has invested in a business in a time when the pub trade is really suffering and you can’t see further than the end of your council noses that to just move all the stalls along is surely the easy answer.

I just cannot comprehend some of our council’s thinking and ridiculous decisions.

If they went back to erecting the stalls as they have previously done for years it might encourage more traders to come back.

It was a feeble excuse that was used to not erect them anyway due to the COVID pandemic stating that the workmen would be getting too close to each other. They would be wearing masks like everybody else and outside in the fresh air and when finished probably get in the cab of a lorry or van and sit shoulder to shoulder.

So come on SHDC and help the folks who want to get on.
