LETTERS – Has the law changed on pull-offs?

I live in a country lane and I drive on country lanes.
I know a good many passing places but I don’t know them all and sometimes I and another driver have to pull on to grass verges in order to pass.
I have always understood that there is allowed to be a pull-off width of verge, and that bricks/fences/boulders/breeze blocks/white posts et cetera are not to be put right there to prevent a pull-off.
By the same token, I can plant comfrey and lots of pretty flowers on my land, half an inch from the lane at the end of my drive, but I must accept that they might be damaged by wheels which have the same pull-over right as I do.
Is this not the law any more?
