LETTERS – Council needs to do its job

On February 7 I drove past the building site at Morrison’s roundabout and was dismayed to see the contractor on the site pumping filthy water onto the public highway leaving it covered in mud.

It’s so disappointing at a time when the Spalding Wombles are making such a valiant effort to keep our streets clean.

I contacted SHDC but they were clearly not interested and immediately passed the buck.

Reading the planning notices, it was interesting to see that on February 23 SHDC planning and building control passed the discharge of a condition for application H14-0011-21 condition three ‘prevention of mud on highway’ which when you read it bears no relation to the actual method used and viewed.

There is little wonder at this, as the statement submitted and approved by our elected councillors was written by Taylor Pearson Construction, who went in to administration in May last year.

Is it any wonder our streets are filthy when those we elect obviously don’t even read what is put in front of them?

South Holland District Council need to wake up and do their job or we will be reliant on the goodwill of volunteers forever to stop us living in a rubbish dump
