LETTERS – Ashamed by pigsty Spalding

I often walk into town from our house on the Cradge Bank estate, though usually I arrive home in a bad mood, and today was no exception.

Along both sides of the river the situation is the same. The pavements, gutters hedges and verges are full of rubbish, from drinks cans to food wrappers to plastic bags and bottles, together with elastic bands discarded by postmen and now – the new kid on the block – discarded face masks.
Scores and scores of items every hundred yards or so. You could fill black bags with it, and sometimes I do.

The town is a pigsty, populated by many people with no personal or civic pride and I feel ashamed to walk through it all.

I like to walk into town, as it is good exercise and reduces pollution. But it is also depressing, and, just like a lot of other aspects of Spalding, I don’t think it’s likely to improve.

Sad, very sad.
