LETTER: Well beyond time for wheelie bins

Given the shocking reports of the many issues surrounding the disposal of plastics, especially single use plastic it is totally irresponsible to continue to add to this problem. So yes it is well beyond time for SHDC to invest in wheelie bins.

Furthermore, I attach a photo of the roadside just up the road from my house following the collection of waste in bags.

Last week, further down the road it was turkey bones, Tampax and a pregnancy testing kit. It is not the fault of householders. Cat/dog proof receptacles are needed.

It would be good to see the cost of disposing of our waste, plastics in particular, handed back to the manufacturers.

With a hefty tax on importing these goods if they are made abroad.

There is a movement that is aiming to make ecocide a criminal offence. If we are to even hope to halt climate change and start to clean up our planet we all need to do more ‘than our bit’ to help. Take a look at www.missionlifeforce.org

There is much that individuals can do but there is an urgent need for government, local councils, manufacturers and retailers to take these issues seriously and put planet and people before profit.
