LETTER: Support the £2 single bus fare

Two years ago I launched a campaign to retain the Spalding to Peterborough No 37 Stagecoach service in its entirety after the provider reduced the service.
I thank our MP Sir John Hayes and staff at Lincs County Council for their help and support with correspondence during my campaign and a big thank you to our community, who supported the petition. Without them, we have no voice.
Since June the No 37 service has been running on an hourly basis, with a better timetable, more drivers and more passengers.
Using the service more myself I have seen a big improvement in passenger numbers.
I joined the national Better Bus Campaign which enabled me to join forces with local campaigns, but on a national basis.
Our national conference was sponsored by 27 national, local and regional organisations, including my union Unite, who helped with leaflets.
The National Pensioners’ Convention were, and still are, very supportive throughout the UK.
The £2 for every single fare with those bus providers who have signed up to the price cap is a great scheme to have in place until the end of 2024 and sits alongside the county’s Callconnect cap that was introduced in September.
Now, as a campaign group, we want to go further and retain the £2 single fare cap nationally on a permanent basis.
You can find our petition at megaphone.org.uk.
This campaign has grown in strength over the last few years, please support our next stage and help communities retain their £2 single fare.
Every community should and could have an outstanding bus service, from early morning to late in the evening, on the hour, every hour.
Together we are stronger, divided we are weak.
Our website has been updated and can be found at https://betterbusescampaign.uk
