LETTER: Speechless over town plans

I would like to know what planet our local councillors are living on?
I was speechless after reading plans they have put forward regarding the traffic flow through Holbeach High Street.
Have they not learned the lesson from paving over the High Street in Spalding?
Twenty years ago it was a busy and bustling town with lots of lovely shops. Now it is a dead high street with empty shops and is depressing to walk through. If the few banks were to close down, nobody would have any reason to go there.
Holbeach is dying on its knees as it is because someone, in their wisdom, thought it was a good idea to take the market from the High Street and hide it away behind the shops where no passing traffic can see it. Needless to say it has dwindled down to just three stalls.
If the traffic is restricted from High Street it will die. The few shops that are clinging on will be empty which will have a knock-on effect for the council (ie no rental or rates income).
The council has proposed two choices, which in my opinion are ridiculous and are no choice at all.
My message to the council is: you may think this is a one-horse town but please do not turn it into Boot Hill.
Long live Holbeach
