LETTER: Remainers’ scare stories

Mr Meekings continues to perpetuate his widely discredited campaign of disinformation and false news regarding Brexit, especially when he knows full well that it is the Brexiteers that work on the basis of ‘common sense, facts and evidence’.

If evidence is required, look at the accuracy of Project Fear. Before the 2016 referendum, remain supporting economists preached that voting to leave the EU would result in an economic meltdown within days. What actually happened? No forecasts on unemployment; stock markets; double-digit inflation; a housing market crash; emergency budget; or World War Three – actually came to pass. Based on the facts and evidence the doomsayers were proven to be embarrassingly wrong on every count, and us Brexiteers were completely vindicated. In fact, compared to the economists of remain, I could probably predict the UK’s economic future more accurately using Tarot cards and a crystal ball.

Further evidence of how wrong the remain fundamentalists are continues unabated. In 2018 the UK was the fastest growing economy, with the lowest level of unemployment, in the EU.

Based on past performance, evidence and facts, we are confident that the Leave economists will be proven right again if we leave with either a Super Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA) or WTO World Trade Deal.

The problem with the remain fundamentalists and their hysterical scare stories is they have the whiff of the millennium bug about them.

However, one thing we can agree on is the difficulty in finding common ground on the issue of leaving the EU. His suggested EEA, second referendum and delaying Brexit suggestions just do not stack up.

So we’re back to the best two options. Option one is Super Canada. It is the best parts of the FTAs the EU has ever negotiated and it respects the outcome of the referendum. Option two, is the WTO World Trade Deal. Mr Meekings has asked us to define in detail what these deals look like. No problem.

Super Canada, also called “A Better Deal – A Better Future” is a blue-print for a comprehensive FTA. This deal was offered to us by the EU in 2018 and is on the table, ready to go. Finally, plans for a World Trade Deal are very advanced.

We already trade with most of the world on this basis – USA, China, India etc. We are in the process of rolling over existing FTAs and fast tracking trade deals like those we have signed with Switzerland and the USA. We will not be trading under WTO rules alone.

Unfortunately, I have no doubt he will try and smear these excellent documents and their authors.

Regarding meeting with Alan – as long as he accepts we should focus on the trade deal options – I would be happy to meet.

If he feels that on this basis discussing the detailed plans I have referred to would be helpful, I would be more than happy to meet with him. He can obtain my number from the Spalding Voice if he wishes to proceed as outlined.

Vote Leave Constituency Co-Ordinator South Holland & The Deepings
