LETTER: Perhaps Ms McKenna should join our ranks

I was so impressed by the letter from Emma McKenna, in the edition of March 29, that I felt I had to take the unusual action and write to congratulate her on an excellent summary of concerns which a number of us on the district council have been expressing for some considerable time.

Members from both the independent group as well as the majority ruling group have, through joint task groups, on several occasions been “scrutinising” the various concerns she expressed.

As a result at last there is at least a plan, which seems an achievement in itself.

What will emerge only time will tell but the district needs first class facilities, not only just for public use, but to enable it to encourage businesses and attract inward investment.

Whether leisure facilities are provided by private, public or joint funding will be part of the examination of the business case.

There has never been a more cost effective time to embark on a major project and one can only hope that we can keep the project on track and not totally Spalding centric.

She is also correct about the other sites blighting the town.

Admittedly money has been spent on keeping some of them reasonably tidy but again some of us continue to raise them as an issue and would like to see a more proactive approach.

Following her excellent appraisal perhaps Ms McKenna should consider joining our ranks.
