LETTER: Parking cost rise will hurt charities

While our community and visitors have not seen a rise in charges for 10 years, someone must be responsible for over looking this and how ever you view it, the increase is far too much!

Were the public consulted or allowed to give a view on such dramatic changes?

Wouldn’t it have been fairer to have make a small initial increase, informing the public that this would rise gradually every year over the coming years?

Was any consideration given to how this will affect those working and using car parking in Spalding daily?

How about when you read of the importance of encouraging people to spend time in Spalding to keep the town alive, how will this help?

I am the manager of a charity shop and currently use Victoria Street car park at a cost of £1.50, five times a week.

Where am I supposed to find the money for such an increase?

The other concern raised by a volunteer who brought this news to my attention – as a volunteer, they are prepared to use their own petrol, paying a day’s parking at £1.30 while giving up their free time to help a good cause, but to make parking £5, may be a step too far and may make future volunteers think twice?

I wonder if anyone feels the same?
