Regarding the amount of accidents at the Clay Lake Bank/Mill Drove junction, when the bypass plans went in, the original plans were to close off both ends of Mill Drove.
The one Cowbit side of the bypass is closed off but for whatever reason Mill Drove North wasn’t closed off and for years has been used as a rat run as people think its quicker and shorter than going round by the bypass.
So the question needs to be asked why didn’t the closure take place? Who can answer that question?
There is nothing wrong with any road in the country (pot holes excluded) as long as drivers use them correctly and drive to the conditions.
Having lived in Weston Hills since 1992, if you use the junction correctly there shouldn’t be any problems. Give an extra look to see that no traffic is coming and stay safe.
When it’s frosty the road by Tyrrell’s Yard remains icy due to the buildings keeping the road in the shade and also the road doesn’t get gritted. So if you’re not going to drive to the relevant conditions you may well suffer the consequences.
I mean if there’s snow on the A16 you drive to the conditions so why don’t people when they use this rat run?
The 40mph speed limit that Coun Casson is on about applies for about 20 meters at the Low Fulney end of Fulney Drove, then it’s national speed limit for the rest of the road through to the bypass.
So we’ve had 38 accidents there in nearly two years. 38 times the emergency services have needed to attend when, if Mill Drove North had been closed off as originally planned when the bypass was built, I wouldn’t be writing this letter and the emergency services could have been dealing with something else.
So why wasn’t Mill Drove North closed off and why can`t it be permanently closed off now?
These are questions that need to asked and answered.
I do hope that someone from the Highways/Transport/County Council in Lincoln reads this and does respond.
Let’s use a bit of common sense, let’s reduce accident rates by closing the junction of Mill Drove North so people can’t use it as a rat run.
The amount of new signs highways wouldn’t have to replace, let alone the cost to emergency services each time they have to come out.
Get people to use the A16.
On the subject of the A16, why was the section from Applegreen roundabout to Crowland roundabout used to test new sub bases and new top coatings for all the pot holes along that section of road?
You go from Applegreen roundabout to Boston and how many pot holes do you see? Not a great deal.
If someone from Highways/Transport/County Council would care to respond to this that would be great.
