LETTER: At least eight accidents at Spalding Common junction

I have just read the article on page 12 of last week’s Voice, I live very close just inside the dead end part of South Drove in sight and ear shot of this junction.

Whoever stated that there was no previous history or issues of poor lighting, unfortunately is rather misguided.

Over the last 25 years I can recollect at least eight to ten incidents at this junction, not just with cars but even HGVs, I can even recollect the road being closed twice.

Every week, especially during the darker months, there are near misses and brakes squealing and horns being blown at this junction I have seen and heard them.

I have even seen it occur in the spring/ summer months when I have been cutting the grass on the river bank.

This junction is very poorly lit and getting worse all bollards have virtually gone and are not lit up, cars drive along the main Deeping road well in excess of 60 mph, I know when we are crossing the road to walk the dog you are taking your life in your hands.

Also traffic from the Deeping direction does not stop when turning onto the Spalding Common road when someone is turning off the main road from the Cowbit direction first.

This junction is the most dangerous around the Spalding bypass because it is a very poorly lit, can be taken quite fast because it is a T-junction and not a roundabout, plus not signed very well, and at any one time cars can be moving in four different directions.

This also then has a knock on effect turning down South Drove next to the Old Royal Oak.

It is about time it had better overhead lights all around the Junction before we have a serious accident, we need some of those very nice lights like around the new Cowbit Roundabout.
