After almost 18 months of absolute drivel from politicians across the political spectrum and the virtually meaningless speech from our Prime Minister in Florence on Friday, we are facing even more uncertainty at the hands of Brexit and those that are pushing it through.
Friday’s speech in particular complicated matters with regards to the rights of EU Nationals within the UK.
When asked whether anything was going to change for the 600,000 Italians living here in the UK, Theresa May replied that they “set out that for those EU citizens… we want them to be able to stay and to have the same rights as they have at the moment”.
That’s brilliant news. But it’s not true. No such thing has been set out as of yet, and all previous indications as to the course those at the helm of Brexit have been steering for us have pointed towards a change in the rights for these people.
So, Mr John Hayes, I have a question:
As our elected representative in the House of Commons – what are you do to assure the EU Nationals from South Holland & The Deepings that their rights will be protected once we leave the EU, and more importantly, what are you doing in way of acting in their best interests whilst they are residents of the constituency that you represent?
