LETTER: 999 staff’s efforts were credit to National Health Service

Given the publicity surrounding the shortcomings of the National Health Service, I should like to cite my own recent experience of how excellent the local service can be.

A short time ago I was involved in an emergency relating to a ward member who collapsed, and I called 999. The response was reassuring and speedy. The doctor and medics (up to six at one point) worked tirelessly and the air ambulance arrived in a remarkably short time. It is a matter of deep sadness that in spite of their best efforts a much admired elderly gentleman passed away.

I should like to place on record my appreciation of the hard work and expertise of the emergency workers who did not give up, and who are a credit to the National Health Service.
