Late leveller leaves Holbeach frustrated

Haverhill Borough 3
Holbeach United 3

It’s five wins, five losses and five draws for Holbeach United in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North so far as a last gasp equaliser denied them victory at Haverhill Borough on Saturday.
The Tigers even found themselves 3-1 up in an exciting first half on Haverhill’s 3G pitch, but they let the home side back in it following a disappointing second half showing.
Harvey Robertson was on song up front, though there was an element of fortune with his first goal, an attempted cross that sailed into the net.
That lead lasted just two minutes as Haverhill responded almost immediately with a well-worked goal.
Robertson produced a fine finish after racing through on goal to restore the lead before Callum Davies made it 3-1 to Holbeach inside 25 minutes with his 12th goal in 13 appearances this season.
On the half hour Haverhill pulled one back as the Tigers went in at the break 3-2 to the good.
Haverhill went for it in the second half but for the most part Holbeach dug in while looking to add to their advantage on the counter.
They were finally undone in injury time failing to deal with a ball into the box.
Billy Bush, Oliver Santry and Callum Stone were Haverhill’s goal scorers.
Joint manager Simon Roberts told Holbeach’s Twitter account of the managerial team’s frustrations at not seeing games out.
He said: “I’d say we’ve thrown away 14 points this season in games we should of won.
“Win those, we are third instead of eighth.”
Holbeach will have the perfect chance to show they’re play-off challengers when they take on Holland on Saturday.
The visitors sit fifth in the division, in the last of the play off places, six points above the Tigers.
The match is a 3pm kick off at Carter’s Park on Saturday.
