Spalding United Women have not allowed the grass to grow under their boots.
Only formed this season, the Tulips are through to the final of the Lincolnshire County FA Women’s Cup, thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory at Grimsby Town on Sunday.
The hosts sit top of Division One North of the East Midlands Regional League, with 10 wins from 10 games but it was their Cambs League visitors who emerged triumphant.
The match finished all square at 3-3 after 90 minutes with Constance Onyinha scoring twice and Chloe Biggadike adding a third for Spalding.
The Mariners had led three times during normal time but it was Spalding who took the lead for the first time early in extra-time through Molli McCormack.
However, this time Grimsby hit back but it was the Tulips who held their nerve to win the penalty decider 5-4 to earn a place in the final.
There they will take on Lincoln United, who won 3-0 at Gainsborough Trinity in their last-four tie.
Tara Parker’s stand-out display, leading by example with strength, composure, and consistency throughout a dramatic tie earned her the player of the match award.
Hopes of a South Lincolnshire cup final double were dashed at Ruston Sports, where the hosts were convincing 10-0 victors against South Lincolnshire Swifts.
