Knock, Knock for victory

Ken Knock collected two trophies in a week of hectic action for Pinchbeck Croquet Club. At Colchester in an Association Croquet match, Knock played Nick Steiner and pegged out, winning +14.

A close match against Al Brown saw Knock hit back from five hoops down to win on his way to pick up the trophy with a total of four victories.

Knock was joined by clubmate Tim Barzycki at a golf croquet B level competition (handicaps 4, 5 and 6) at Hunstanton.

Barzycki finished 11th but Knock remained unbeaten on his way to claim the trophy.

Pinchbeck travelled to Newport (Essex) for an association match. Jonathan Toye lost the first game
26-0, followed by Charles Ostler losing 26-4. However, Knock and David Boxall triumphed in the doubles.

Knock then suffered a 26-0 defeat and Boxall lost 25-17, despite a real struggle at the final hoop. Toye won his next game 18-14 before Ostler battled in intermittent rain to lose 26-17, with the final result 4-3 to Newport.

Pinchbeck have entered two teams in the East Anglian Federation Golf Croquet League.

Pinchbeck 1 played Unity (Sudbury) at home. The team of Knock, Ann Gillett and Derek Brocklesby drew 5-5 but lost out on hoops difference. A short trip to Downham Market resulted in a 6-4 defeat, while Pinchbeck 2 went down 10-8 at Bury St Edmunds.

Barzycki was in Colchester for the Laetica Atkinson Cup and won the morning session on a penalty shoot-out but lost out 7-6 in the knockout stages.

He did enough to reach the final at Northampton but lost 7-5.
