Joyous night in 6-a-side league for Old Boy Coaches and Balotellitubbies

Another smashing night at the business end of the season of Spalding 6 a-side league saw Old Boy Coaches secure promotion from Division Two and Balotellitubbies pull off the unthinkable in the top tier.

Division One: Business as usual for Brennans Sports in division one as they steamrolled past EPH Allstars 8-1. Tyler Wright putting in a worldy performance to get man-of-the-match and push Brennans closer to their first title. The boys in black dominated the match from beginning to end as they showed everybody why they are champions elect. EPH will be disappointed, not with the result, but the manner in which they lost. They now cling onto the hope of Simple FC or Univeg Team dropping points in the last two games.

Match two in the top tier also saw the predicted result as Baltic United overcame last week’s draw to ease past Simple FC 2-0. Another highly polished team performance and an incredible sixth man of the match award for Baltic’s Edgaras Buzas. Only one player can now catch him in the race for player of the season. Simple meanwhile hang just above the drop zone with a punishing run-in.

The third match kept referee Matthew Follett on his toes as Polishborough and Univeg Team played out a 4-3 classic. Unfortunately Alexeu Markovs of Univeg Team saw his game cut short after being sin-binned in the last few minutes by the referee following persistent fouling. He is now issued with no ban but a fine. Univeg played well and deserve credit but ultimately the firepower of Polishborough made the difference and kept them on Brennan’s tail ahead of their all-Baltic clash next week. Jake Read with another man of the match performance in between the sticks for Univeg.

The final match in the top tier was the most surprising result of the season! Balotellitubbies before this game had no points and had only managed 2 goals in 11 games. They came up against Ultra D who had been in impressive form since joining the league midway through the current season… foregone conclusion right?! Wrong! Balotellitubbies turned on the style, the finishing and the class all at the same time as they bulldozed Ultra D 5-0. Not only their first clean sheet of the season but a fantastic performance to go with it. Michael Cope getting the man of the match for this game.

Division Two: The second divisions first game saw Luis Suarez Ate My Hamster beat the sturdy Mail Carters 1-0 in an engrossing game under the floodlights of Surfleet. Mail Carters holding strong and defending stoutly but unable to hold off the attack-minded Luis Suarez AMH. Lee Copland with his third man of the match since moving into a defensive position midway through the current season. An epic game which could have swung either way.

The division continued with Sarah’s Boys folding under the pressure of Dynamo Kiev as they ran riot and chalked up a 3-0 victory. Another fine performance from Zack Lucas and his team saw him get the man of the match award and the team go level on points with Sarah’s Boys who make up the middle of the table.

Match three in the second tier was Posh Old Boys beating Class On Grass 4-0. A result which secured Old Boy Coaches promotion before they’d even kicked a ball and a win which pushes Posh Old Boys closer to the title. 4-0 was a fair reflection on a game which showed everyone why Posh Old Boys are sitting pretty at the top of the table. James Halesworth linking well with his team mates to get man of the match and help his team to their tenth win of the season.

The final match of the night was the now-promoted Old Boy Coaches easing past Le Saux Solid Crew 3-0. The Le Saux boys did have their chances but the boys in grey showing a better display of finishing and corpulent defending. The title still undecided as both Old Boy Coaches and Posh Old Boys go into the last two weeks. Trevor Laud getting the man of the match accolade in this particular game.
