Jokers are inspired by successes for Sasha in Spalding Table Tennis League’s Moulton Shield

The Spalding and District Table Tennis League continued last week with the third round of the Moulton Shield.

Jokers faced fellow title contenders South Holland and, with league number one Sasha Martin on board, took the tie 4-1.

He started them off and then a surprise win for Guntars Briedes gave them a second before the doubles settled the tie.

Holland pulled one back before Martin closed the match out.

League leaders Bladerunners saw off Mine’s a Pint 5-0, taking all the games in two ends – though one end was forced into a deuce.

JDM won by the same score against Division Two opponents Skidlids.

Richard Matthews picked up an end for the losers and, despite the scoreline, admitted it had been an enjoyable match.

Division Two’s Win for a Curry pressured Division One trailers Nets and Edges throughout the match.

They took an end in the doubles and forced a deuce, but still found the top tier outfit too strong and went down 0-5.

During the evening South Holland caught up on their postponed match with Aches and Pains from the previous week.

Despite being forced into a couple of deuces and dropping an end, Jean White and John Gilbert proved too strong.

They move up to level with Jokers in third place.

In Division Two, Chunky and Monkey Jr completed their match with Sons of Anarchy.

With the score standing level, the doubles went to five ends with the Anarchy pair coming from behind to record a first win in the league and move up two places ahead of their opponents.
