John Hayes resigns from government

John Hayes, MP for South Holland and the Deepings, this morning handed the prime minister his resignation letter amid the cabinet reshuffle.

Hayes was reappointed as Minister of State at the Department for Transport following the general election of 8 June 2017, a position he held since 2016. Boris Johnson’s brother, Jo Johnson, will take his place.

His resignation letter stated he is leaving to concentrate on boosting Conservative party membership.

He has been the MP for South Holland and the Deepings since 1997.
