Jim steps up to Rotary role

Jim Tyner has been named as the new president of Spalding Rotary.

He was given his ceremonial chains at the group’s annual handover celebration, this year held at The Woodlands Hotel in the town.

Outgoing president Graham Dawson thanked the club for all its support and said he looked forward to his new role as assistant governor for the East Midlands district.

Incoming president Jim Tyner paid tribute to Graham’s fund-raising, including his triathlon challenge for the Breast Cancer Now charity.

Jim said: “I look forward to carrying on the traditions of the club and its focus on adding real value to our local community, particularly those activities that help young people thrive.”

Many people in Spalding will know Jim from his time as the local policing inspector, where he actively engaged with the community through social media and local newspaper features.

Now retired, he still maintains links with Spalding Police, volunteering as a cadet leader.

Rotarian Alan Rumsey takes over as president-elect.

He is an active member of the club who organises the popular senior citizens concert, the Disability Games and the youth events, including the ‘Let’s Sing’ competition and the Junior Chef contest.
