South Lincs Border League bragging rights belong to Long Sutton after both their first and second team were victorious in their derby encounters with Moulton Harrox.
In the Championship clash of the first teams, Sutton posted 165 and then bowled out Moulton for 112 to chalk up a 53-run success for only their second win of the season, putting a spoke in the wheels of the visitors’ title ambitions.
Moulton captain Matt Rose won the toss and stuck Long Sutton in. They started well, with openers Calvin Bird (56) and Jake Burton (15) reaching 34 before Harry Lovell (3-13) made the breakthrough.
Alex Baker (2-15) took two quick wickets in a tidy spell, while Curtis Todd (2-26) applied pressure through the middle overs.
Sutton captain Josh Baker chipped in with a brisk 32 from 29 balls but Uddyan Hansana (3-34) and Lovell wrapped things up sharply, taking the last four wickets for just eight runs.
In reply, Moulton got off to the worst possible start, with Jamie Juckes bowled for nought by Josh Baker (3-30). Anish Suwarneraj followed soon after, trapped in front for one by Barry Stanway (2-32).
Flynn McMillan (28) and Matt Rose (30) started a rebuild but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as Moulton were bowled out for 112 with Tim Norris taking 3-17 from his five overs.
The Division One clash of the second XIs saw Moulton make an early breakthrough when Pradeep Indika bowled Luke Barnes for three. However, Sutton captain Aron John (52) and Rajan Sangha (50) built a solid 69-run partnership and the rest of the order chipped in for a total of 194/9 from their 45 overs.
Zak Maddison’s leg spin earned him 4-37 from nine overs, while Jay Hemmant impressed on debut with 2-11.
Moulton’s reply never quite got going. Youngsters Charlie Poulter (7) and Jotham Suwarneraj (6) fell early and talisman Cleve Bayston was out for just six.
Maddison (23) and Thilina Dilshan (12) started a mini-fightback, with Paul Bullock adding 10 and captain Rob Callaby chipping in with 12.
Shanaka Sumanapala gave the innings a late spark with an excellent 37 off 40 balls but it was not enough as they succumbed for 143 in the 42nd over.
Rob Simpson was the main thorn in their side with a 4-15 haul. Steven Milnes
(2-13) and Charith Harshana (2-20) also took a pair of wickets each.
