Impressive 7-0 win for U18 girls’ team

Spalding United U18 Girls delivered a commanding performance to secure an emphatic 7-0 away victory over Cambridge City U18s, keeping their hold on the top of the Cambridgeshire league position.

They dominated from the first whistle and rarely allowed their opponents a foothold in the game.

From the outset, Spalding controlled possession and territory, pinning Cambridge deep inside their own half for much of the first period.

The pressure told early on, with the breakthrough arriving in just the eighth minute. A well-timed assist from Lexa Feary released Chloe Revell, who calmly slotted the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper to open the scoring.

Spalding continued to press relentlessly, and their second goal came midway through the half. In the 25th minute, a long throw into the box caused problems for the Cambridge defence, and Issy Storrie reacted quickest to shield the ball well from the defender then spun to fire home with a left-footed finish from close range.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Spalding maintaining control and adding to their tally. Five minutes after the restart, Ruby Forsyth delivered a corner that was met powerfully by Feary, whose header extended the lead.

On the hour mark, another long throw created chaos in the Cambridge penalty area, and Storrie was on hand to tap in from close range after a defensive mix-up, grabbing her second of the match.

The pressure showed no signs of easing, and in the 75th minute, Storrie turned provider from a corner, setting up Feary to grab her second goal of the game.

The scoring continued into the final stages. In the 80th minute, Ava Smith found the net, with the assist later credited to Ruby Forsyth.

Just three minutes later, Smith added her second, reacting quickest after Revell’s shot was parried by the goalkeeper to round off the scoring.

It was a dominant, all-round team performance from Spalding United U18s, who controlled the game throughout and showed clinical finishing to match their territorial advantage.

POTM was awarded to Revell for an outstanding performance.

Spalding United U18 Girls’ final match was last night (Wednesday) against KLSC Lionesses who are currently second in the league.
