South Holland District Council’s planning committee was worried nuisance and disputes would arise out of two homes having boundaries with an area of public open land where children may want to gather and play ball games.
Chairman Roger Gambba-Jones said: “We have enough experience of other properties adjacent to public space to know it’s something we should do our best to avoid. In summer months it will be a nightmare for whoever lives in them.”
Officers are to negotiate with the applicant Kaplan Property Group to see if those homes can be removed or moved and further discuss improvements to aesthetics of all the homes.
Michael Gisbourne, property director for the developer, told councillors at the beginning of last Wednesday’s meeting, the firm was keen to begin building as soon as possible with a hope for the first homes to be available by December.
The application will be referred back to the chairman’s panel for a decision. Six out of 14 councillors had voted to allow the application without amendment.
