Holbeach United into last 32 of FA Vase; Spalding United march goes on; plus scores round-up

Buoyant Holbeach United have reached the last 32 of the FA Vase.

Lee Beeson’s storming 25-yarder early in the first half proved to be the only goal of the third-round match at London Colney on Saturday.
Joint managers John Chand and Graham Drury will now be looking to emulate Alan Day’s achievement in 1988/89 of steering the Tigers to the last 16.

It could even be an all-UCL tie in the fourth round, with Yaxley and Thurnby Nirvana winning through as well. The other remaining UCL Premier Division sides all went out.

Meanwhile, it’s great news on the other side of the South Holland rivalry too.
Spalding United rattled off a fifth straight league win to quickly return to fourth place in Evo-Stik League Division One South.
They beat Romulus 1-0 with a Jordan Hempenstall strike on 57 minutes.

In a clearly practised move, Jamie Thurlbourne’s throw-in near the left-hand corner flag was back-headed by centre-half Nathan Stainfield at the near post and the ball was swept home by Hempsenstall from eight yards.

The match was far from a spectacle on a heavy, uneven Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, but the Tulips faced little danger.
That’s now eight league wins from nine unbeaten for Pat Rayment’s troops.

Meanwhile in the Peterborough League, Pinchbeck United eased past Langtoft United 4-1 and remain fifth in the table.
Rivals Moulton Harrox were knocked out of the President’s Premier Shield, 2-1 at home to title-chasing Netherton United.
