Holbeach tripped up by nine-man visitors

Holbeach United failed to make a two-man advantage count in a disappointing defeat at home to Stanway Pegasus in the Thurlow Nunn League.

The visitors returned to Essex with all three points, despite having lost one player to a 15th-minute red card and a second on the hour-mark.

Pegasus took a fifth-minute lead but the Tigers looked to be on their way to overturning their short-handed opponents when Callum Wright levelled after the break. However, despite the second sending-off, it was the play-off-chasing away side who grabbed a late winner.

A Holbeach spokesman said: “Despite being down to nine men, they still found a way to get the result. We’ll learn from it and respond the right way.”

Tigers: Sellars, Bobide, Roberts, West, Oldham, Carter, O Williams, Nicholson, Hyde, Wright, Coelho. Subs: Goult, Kacirek, O’Connor, Akyüz, J Williams.
