Holbeach precept to be put up

Holbeach Parish Council’s precept is set to be increased by 4.77 per cent for a Band B property.

It follows the passing of its budget at the authority’s latest meeting.
The meeting was told that estimates before the tax base is set would see its income increase from £307,692 to £330,079.
The meeting was told that salaries would increase due to new national insurance rates.
Other additional costs included £40,000 repairs to the Cemetery Chapels (£10,000 from the budget and £30,000 from reserves) and £2,000 for a defibrillator at Holbeach Hurn.
Coun Sophie Hutchinson criticised the council for giving them copies of the budget at the meeting.
“Yet again we’ve only got a few minutes to read through a whole budget,” she said. “Given it’s one of the most important things we do, I’d like to have time to digest it.
“It’s about nine pages and it’s quite a lot of money.”
Parish clerk Jan Hearsey responded: “There’s hardly any changes and we’ve run through all of them already with you.
“It’s only for full council to ratify and it goes through the Finance Committee.
“Councillors were given the budget the previous night and will have taken the budget and gone through it with a fine tooth comb.”
