Holbeach man from ‘middle of nowhere’ drove to work while banned

A Holbeach man reported by his employer for driving to work when banned told a court he did so as he lived ‘in the middle of nowhere’.

Samuel Wheeler, 21, of Station Road, who admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance, told police that he had driven to work on August 22 because he had no-one who could drive him to work.

The court was told he had been banned from driving for an excess alcohol offence until March 2023.

Wheeler, who was not represented in court, said he lived ‘in the middle of nowhere’ and was about four
miles away from work.

The magistrates said he had shown a ‘blatant disregard’ for the rules and were ‘not at all sympathetic’ as he ‘could have bought a bicycle for £20 somewhere’.

He was fined £415 and ordered to pay a total of £251 in court costs and charges and was given an additional six month driving ban.
