Holbeach is ready to celebrate

Holbeach is looking blooming marvellous thanks to a community effort.

With the town’s In Bloom organisation having stepped aside, others have stepped up to the plate.

County and district councillor Tracey Carter, deputy leader of SHDC Nick Worth, along with parish councillor Rachel Flood took on the role of sourcing hanging baskets thanks to money given to South Holland District Council Town Improvement Fund.

Flamingo Flowers answered a plea for help with plants and when it came to the issue of watering them, it was Holbeach Fire Crew to the rescue.

Watch manager John Kinder said: “I was proud of my team to immediately offer their time for free and to take on the watering task.

“It is also a wonderful opportunity for us to raise much needed funds to support the Fire Fighters Charity.”

Chosen Holbeach provided £500 to buy flowers for Stukeley, Market Hill, Station Street and in parts of the churchyard which was planted by parish councillor Mark Murfet and his wife Helen.

“It’s been a real collective effort,” Mark said. “It’s fantastic what Chosen has donated and the town’s looking lovely.”

Coun Carter said: “It’s been quite a challenging journey to get to this point as we were starting from scratch, not having any funds to rely on nor even having any baskets or premises to plant them in, but we have overcome the hurdles and I’m delighted the baskets are up.

“I think it shows the strength of Holbeach yet again, that between us we can all make these positive things happen for the town. By various parties taking on smaller sections, all working together, Holbeach is blooming again. Thank you to all involved.”
