Holbeach car park will still have hour’s free parking after change of mind

An hour’s free parking will be allowed in Holbeach’s Boston Road South car park after a change of mind.

You currently get up to two hours free parking at the site, but as part of rises in charges in South Holland District Council’s budget it had been proposed to remove that.

But just before the new charges were due to be implemented, the authority has released a statement from its leader Coun Nick Worth saying people will be able to park for free in Boston Road South for one hour.

From April 8 the fee for two hours will be £1 and £1.50 for all day tickets. Charges apply from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

These rates will apply between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and will come into effect from 8 April 2024.

Coun Worth said: “I am taking this decision as leader on behalf of the council, having taken on board extensive feedback, in particular from partner organisations as well as residents and wider stakeholders, about the impact removing the current free short-stay parking provision in Boston Road could have on the local economy and for the town’s residents and visitors.

“This decision, coupled with the removal of all remaining parking charges after 6pm in Spalding town car parks from April 8, demonstrates our continued support to residents and businesses whilst continuing to deliver our key services.”

The other changes to charges remain as passed.
