High-flying Pinchbeck United full of confidence ahead of Olney Town test

Player/boss Ian Dunn admits that he can feel the confidence flowing within his Pinchbeck United squad.

The Knights are flying high in their debut season in ChromaSport PDFL Division One, sitting second in the standings – one point off leaders Raunds – after nine games.

Next up for the promotion hopefuls is a home date against Olney Town at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday – with Dunn having something of a selection dilemma.

Having been so impressed with last weekend’s 3-2 victory at Lutterworth Athletic (see page 37), Dunn has to decide if the returning Andrew Tidswell, Liam Ogden and Tom Brooks merit a place in his starting line-up.

“We’re about a quarter of the way through the season and right in the mix,” enthused Dunn. “I’ve got to be happy with that.

“Obviously there are teams like Potton who have games to catch up on, but I feel we are where we are on merit.

“We’ve beaten Raunds Town and Lutterworth Athletic this season, so we know we can get results against the other top sides.

“I’m really looking forward to the next game, I’d expect it to be a lively one against Olney.

“They have the top scorer in the league, but have also conceded quite a few – I’d expect there to be goals for sure.

“If we keep on creating chances and defending as well as we have been, I’m confident that we’ll get another victory.”

If the Knights are to keep their fine form going, it’s likely that they’ll need to keep Drew Mitten quiet.

The Olney ace has netted 13 goals in ten appearances this season, making him the league’s leading marksman.

That’s only three more than Ollie Maltby, who has ten in ten for Pinchbeck.

Meanwhile, the Knights have been fined £125 and kicked out of the UCL KO Cup for fielding the ineligible Edgaras Buzas in last Tuesday’s 4-2 win at Raunds.

Dunn added: “It was an innocent mistake on our part.

“It is still so early in the season and nobody thought to check and see if he was cup tied.

“It’s disappointing, of course, but we move on.”
